Her expertise in intercultural relations and international education has evolved from teaching English in South Korea; from recruiting, advising, and supporting international scholars on numerous US-American university campuses; from facilitating relationships between high school exchange students and their US-American host families; from orienting immigrant and non-immigrant families to American social and business culture; and from coaching executives through their transitions to leadership roles in global businesses contexts. Christy has extensive experience developing and facilitating intercultural communication training, both online and onsite. She has managed academic, cultural, and social programs for international scholars and their families at such well-known institutions as the University of Washington's Global Business Center; the Monterey Institute of International Studies; the University of California-Berkeley's International House; and San Jose State University International House. During her youth, Christy's parents hosted a high school exchange student every year and she credits that early intercultural exposure for her fascination with cultural differences and her passion for international travel. In addition to teaching ESL in Pusan and Seoul, South Korea for 2 years, Christy spent a year as a high school exchange student in Canberra, Australia, and has traveled throughout Europe and Asia recruiting international students and scholars for graduate study in the US. Christy intuitively understands the needs of expatriates and enjoys supporting ambitions abroad clients in developing a clearer understanding of living and working in a new culture, while increasing their awareness of the many nuances of intercultural communication – ultimately honing their own cultural self-awareness and creating their own personal action plan to achieve their ambitions abroad. Christy has an M.A. in Intercultural Relations with specializations in International Student Advising & International Education (Lesley University) and a B.A. in Cultural Anthropology (University of Michigan, Ann Arbor). An avid lifelong learner, Christy completed the Graduate Certificate in Executive & Professional Coaching (University of Texas at Dallas, Jindal School of Management) in 2013 and is a candidate for her coach credential from the International Coach Federation. In addition to holding a Certificate in Essentials of HR Management (Society of Human Resource Management) & an Award of Achievement in Intercultural Communication (University of British Columbia), she has completed post-graduate coursework in Human Resource Development (University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign); Psychology (Chapman University); & Counselor Education (San Jose State University), as well as continuing education courses in Non-Profit Management (San Jose State University). Christy is a member of ICF (International Coach Federation); SIETAR (Society for Intercultural Training, Education, and Research); & NAFSA: Association of International Educators.
